A trained textile designer, Katie Mawson has spent years collecting vintage cloth bound books, and she uses the covers to give these books a new life as pieces of art. She slices, cuts, rips and skins these beautifully marked and faded cloths from their boards, deconstructing to then reconstruct into something new. 

 

Katie lives in the Lake District and wild swims at sunrise throughout the year. She imparts the quietness and calmness of these swims, along with the changes in the seasons to her viewer, through these works. We are reminded of the juxtaposition between the beauty of urban decay and dereliction with the purity of nature.
